This time of the year the currents are stronger and the visibility better than in any other season. A great period to visit the Laamu and Gaaf Atoll as many spectacular channels offer chances to see excessive pelagic life. Demanding dives but with some luck very rewarding.
The South of Maldives is visited mainly during the high season ( from February till April). During that time the currents are coming predominantly from the East and are a bit stronger. A unique time to visit the many channels on the East of the atolls that are offering good chances of seeing pelagic life. Grey Reef Sharks, White tip reef sharks eagle rays and tunas are common, but sometimes sailfish, silky sharks, treasure sharks and much more are spotted. With your reefhook into the atoll edge you just observe while the spectacle takes place. In order to enjoy these demanding dives make sure you have gained experience with currents, feel very comfortable underwater and have sufficient dive experience.
The Huvadhoo Atoll is actually the second largest natural atoll in Maldives and even the 10th largest in the whole world. With a good incoming current the channels there are unique and there is more than enough to explore for several dive trips!
